Church of the Living Sun

"If God did not exists, it would be necessary for us to invent Him." - Voltaire

Are we alone? Here is what Richard Dawkins wrote in his book "The Greatest Show on Earth"
"My guess is, for what it's worth (not much because there are so many unknowns), is that life is very rare, but that the number of planets is so large (more are being discovered all the time) that we are probably not alone, and there may be millions of islands of life in the universe. Nevertheless, even millions of islands could still be so far apart that they have almost no chance of ever encountering one another, even by radio."

It's estimated that there are possibly many billions if not trillions of other suns and astronomers in 2011 discovered humongous black holes with masses of nearly 10 billion suns each. That's 10,000 million times larger than the size of our god and yet we still believe that without OUR "perfect" sun we human animals could not and would not exist on this planet.

It's estimated that half of all suns have planets around them (billions of which are close to the size of the planet Earth).

We have discovered numerous giant clouds that contain water in outer space and some of those clouds contain water volumes many trillions of volumes of water bigger than what is in all of our oceans.

We are certain that meteorites from outer space have contained and deposited DNA particles onto our tiny planet

On this planet some organisms can live in extremely hot and low oxygen conditions near volcanic eruptions in our oceans.

Our Earth is no longer seen as flat by most people and yet amazingly there are still billions of people on this planet who believe we humans were created "special" by their god/s and are the only "intelligent" creatures in all of the billions if not trillions of other universes.

August 2012 our god (possibly to scare us?), sent out a solar whip. Measuring half a million miles long and visible over two days in August, this "solar whip" could wrap around our small planet approx. twenty times.

We all do know that without our Sun we humans would not exist

Agnostics say: "I don't have a knowledge that god exists."

Atheists say: "I don't have a belief that a god or gods exists."

As you can see, one can be both an Agnostic as well as an Atheist.

All humans are Atheist of some sorts as most believe in just one god and reject the rest of the god/s that others have faith in.

It's obvious that religion isn't a necessary component of an ethical life.

"In science it often happens that scientists say 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again ... It happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." - Carl Sagan

Welcome to Living Sun dot com where we believe that's ok not to know what happens after we die.

"What I want to believe based on emotions and what I should believe based on evidence do not always coincide. I'm a skeptic not because I do not want to believe but because I want to know". - Michael Shermer

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
- Epicurus

"My position concerning God is that of an agnostic."
- Albert Einstein Oct. 25, 1950

the Christians stole our worshipping of our Sun God

"I am wiser than this man; it is likely that neither of us knows anything worthwhile, but he thinks he knows something when he does not, whereas when I do not know; neither do I think that I know; so I am likely to be wiser than he is to this small extent, that I do not think about what I do not know." Socrates talking to himself (to his dying day insisted that he could only be considered wise because that he knew that he knew nothing).

What makes one organized religion a "cult" and another not a cult?

from Wikipedia:
Solar deities throughout cultures
In different religions solar supreme deities carry different names and are associated with different aspects of the cultural universe of the society, but for the most part its raw image remains identical.

The Neolithic concept of a solar barge, the sun as traversing the sky in a boat, is found in the later myths of ancient Egypt, with Ra and Horus. Earlier Egyptian myths imply that the sun is within the lioness, Sekhmet, at night and can be seen reflected in her eyes or that it is within the cow, Hathor during the night, being reborn each morning as her son (bull). Proto-Indo-European religion has a solar chariot, the sun as traversing the sky in a chariot.

During the Roman Empire, a festival of the birth of the Unconquered Sun (or Dies Natalis Solis Invicti) was celebrated on the winter solstice -- the "rebirth" of the sun. In Germanic mythology this is Sol, in Vedic Surya, and in Greek Helios (occasionally referred to as Titan) and (sometimes) as Apollo. Mesopotamian Shamash plays an important role during the Bronze Age, and "my Sun" is eventually used as an address to royalty. Similarly, South American cultures have emphatic Sun worship, see Inti. Svarog is the Slavic god sun and spirit of fire.

During the later periods of Roman history, sun worship gained in importance and ultimately led to what has been called a "solar monotheism." Nearly all the gods of the period were possessed of solar qualities. The feast of Sol Invictus (Unconquered Sun) on December 25 was celebrated with great joy, and eventually this date was taken over by the Christians as Christmas, the celebrated birthday of Christ.
